Task Forces

Div. 37 sponsors two interdivisional task forces in which members can participate.

  • Interdivisional Task Force for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (IDTF)
This task force comprises eight APA divisions and seeks to promote the conceptualization and realization of a new national model for promoting, preserving and restoring our children’s mental health.
  • Div. 7 and Div. 37 Joint Task Force on Physical Punishment of Children
The charge of the task force is to bring together the scientific information on the physical punishment of children and translate it into policy recommendations to benefit society and improve the lives of children and families. This charge is consistent with APA’s core values of advancement of knowledge and its application based upon methods of science, ethical action, and the pursuit of social justice. One significant goal of the task force is to determine whether the scientific literature is strong enough to support broadening the APA’s 1975 resolution on corporal punishment to include reference to children’s homes.
